Non-Christian songs of the heart

People often have impressions of a Christian as someone whose whole life is just about God: he/she talks about God, prays regularly and listens to worship music. However, Christians do talk about other things and do listen to other music too. For me, there have been some non-Christian songs that have deeply impacted me at various times in my life.

The below 2 songs are friendship songs from Pikachu's Jukebox in the Pokemon series. They left an impact on me when I was in Secondary School and are songs that I have long treasured. They are songs that mean a lot to me as they talk about everlasting friendships, friends who will always be there to care for one another and will always stick together through thick and thin.

Together Forever:
You've been such a good friend
I've known you since I don't know when
We’ve got lots of friends
But they come and go
Even though we've never said it
There's something that the two of us both know

CHORUS
Together forever no matter how long
From now until the end of time
We'll be together, and you can be sure
That forever and a day
That's how long we'll stay
Together and forever more

Always gone that extra mile
Depended on you all the while
Even in the good and bad times
You will see
From now until our journey's end
You know you can always count on me

CHORUS

BRIDGE
No matter where our destiny leads
I'll be there for you, always come through
And that, you can believe

CHORUS

My Best Friend:
CHORUS
To the end I will be with you
We will go where our dreams come true
All the times that we have been through
You will always be my best friend

Here we are on a new adventure
Danger lurks somewhere in the darkness
We are set for surprises even better
We’re a team and no one better mess with us
If we stand as one
There’s nothing to fear
We’ll beat the darkness and we’ll stay right here
So time after time
That’s how it will be
Just you and me

CHORUS

Good friends are those who stick together
In the sun and in the heavy weather
There’s smile after smile
That’s how it will be
Just you and me

CHORUS

BRIDGE
I remember when we first met
We had such fun, oh I never will forget
Today when times are so good
We’ve always stuck together like best friends should

CHORUS

The song below was a song that became significant to me during the April-May period in 2005 when I was on the verge of leaving church as it spoke of how I felt then. It was a time when I felt my world was crumbling apart and I wondered why all of it was happening to me ("How could this happen to me"). It was also a time when I felt like giving up on my own life ("I'm sick of this life").

Untitled (by Simple Plan):
I open my eyes
I try to see but I’m blinded by the white light
I can’t remember how
I can’t remember why
I’m lying here tonight

And I can’t stand the pain
And I can’t make it go away
No I can’t stand the pain

CHORUS
How could this happen to me
I made my mistakes
I’ve got nowhere to run
The night goes on
As I’m fading away
I’m sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

Everybody’s screaming
I try to make a sound but no one hears me
I’m slipping off the edge
I’m hanging by a thread
I wanna start this over again

So I try to hold onto a time when nothing mattered
And I can’t explain what happened
And I can’t erase the things that I’ve done
No I can’t

CHORUS

I made my mistakes
I’ve got nowhere to run
The night goes on
As I’m fading away
I’m sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me
